Contract Agreement Reached!
The Kern High School Teachers Association Bargaining Team is pleased to announce that after completion of negotiations today, we have reached a tentative agreement with the District.
The Executive Board met today and voted unanimously to recommend the tentative agreement to the Representative Council. The representative Council will vote to recommend to the General Membership on March 19th. The Membership will have two opportunities to vote for ratification of the tentative agreement:
March 31st and April 3rd. The KHSD Board will have an opportunity to ratify the agreement at the April 7th Board meeting.
The contract settlement includes an on-schedule salary increase of 1% for this year (2013-2014) and another on-schedule salary increase of 4% for next year (2014-2015). The agreement includes fully paid health and welfare benefits for both 2013-14 and 2014-15 a cost of about 2%. The compensation package represents 7% over two years if you include the Health and Welfare benefit costs.
The salary increase for this year is retroactive to July 1, 2013. The 1% increase for this year will be reflected on the April pay warrant and the increased stipends that are a percentage of the salary schedule will be reflected on the May pay warrant.
In addition, the District will attempt to restore programs and reduce class size as well. It’s our hope that lower class sizes and improved programs for students will benefit the environments that teachers work in every day.
We will be sending out additional information and a more detailed explanation of the tentative agreement prior to the ratification vote.
